Barn Owl

Barn owl

Copper, plaster, paint, 20 x 14,7 cm

Firma Kuiken, Soest, ca. 1930

A barn owl, sitting on a gnarled branch, surrounded bij leafs of a chestnut.

The decoration was made by hollowing out the surface of the copper plate,

leaving the lines of the drawing intact, and then filling the cavities with plaster,

which was then painted in subtle shades of brown and green.

Similar images of a cockatoo and a marabou are in the possession of relatives of Ms M.

The Firma Kuiken was a factory where linoleum was printed.

Decorations like the Barn owl were made by the employees as a hobby.
