Newsletter January 2017

Dear readers, friends and Sillizens!

After the autumn storms blew the dazzling colours from the trees, Villa Dark Horse floated into the wintertime. It has been a long while since you received our last Newsletter but that is not because the Villa slides silently into one hibernation after the other! On the contrary! While the world turned darker and darker, not only due to the season but also due to inconceivable political developments, we wrote, travelled and photographed and refurbished the Villa. Not even the Villa was immune to the tides of time: we suffered from a bioterrorist attack which disrupted our daily life for weeks! You will find the highlights of our activities below. You are cordially invited to wander about theVilla and its surroundings.

A bioterrorist attack on the Villa!

Half September our housekeeper Kate raised the alarm: bedbugs invaded the Villa and their nightly raids disrupted our everyday life. Kate erased these nasty intruders with a firm hand. The whole Villa was completely turned upside down, disinfected and cleaned. Even every mouse in the house went into the washing machine. En passant Kate redecorated almost the entire Villa! The city of Amsterdam was so kind to provide me, in these strenuous weeks, with a newoffice at Lelylaan Station.

World State of Affairs

During several journeys Ms. M. informed herself of the state of affairs in the world. Just after three terrorist attacks in Bavaria she visited this part of Germany. In Nuremberg she saw this moving scene: children in the St. Sebald’s Church lighting candles for peace… Ms M. wonders why these days people do not follow the example of warfare in the Middle Ages: they settled their disputes by shooting flowers at each other! She found proof of this method in a Strasbourg tapestry dated 1420. Both photographs form part of the photo exhibition Nuremberg/Fränkische Schweiz in the Art Collection.

Politics!?

During her trip to Aberdeen and Shetland Ms M. was confronted by more political intolerance: demonstrations pro and contra the Brexit. Oh, if just everyone could be as tolerant, non-nationalistic and a-political as we are in the Villa! I, Seamus, am half Scottish/half Irish, Ms. M. lives in Iceland, Kate originates from Amsterdam, Dark Horse and Dormouse met in Hungary and the Rat has its domicile in Nepal. And yet most of the times we live and work peacefully together. I cannot reveal more about us, because our personnel filesare Top Secret!

Dark Horses

Dark Horse is delighted to hear that in Rotterdam a street is name after her!

Voordorps Verbeelding

Ms M is preparing another performance with songs and poems which will take place at the art route Voordorps Verbeelding (Voordorps Fantasy) in November 2017. The theme of this new performance will be: Trees. Four new poems she wrote can be found in the Room of Life. In due course, there will be more information on the art route at the website of Voordorps Verbeelding.

Take a break

And finally: everyone whose heart is frozen by all the political turmoil in the world I would recommend the two photo-exhibitions by Ms. M.: Summer in the Netherlands and Aberdeen/Shetland. You are cordially invited to warm yourself in the Living Room of the Villa. If you like to keep your head cool, do the Winterwonderwalk Outside. There you can also take the bus to Shetland’s northernmost place. If this is not enough to regain your peace of mind, then look at two new ‘1-minutemovies’ in the Meditation Room.

Enjoy!
